Strategies to selling on EBay
In a nutshell, selling online on auctions seems to be a simple concept, but it does take time and sometimes it is even better to have initial capital. EBay, for example, is one of the largest online auctions. Selling with EBay requires you to pay fees, and if you want to get your business up and running very fast keep in mind that you will spend a lot on fees, especially during initial phase while you are learning to sell.
You have to realize it is always hard to start in a well established market with a lot of competition, so in the beginning you may have to give great deals or free shipping on products you sell.
To help you get started to make money with any auction here are some important guidelines.
1 Choose your product wisely.
If you choose a product that is widely sold you are risking running in strong competition. Making money will be tough. One strategy is to come up with something to sell that no one else has. Try to obtain unique items to sell, such as collectible items. Hard to find items can be another rewarding area to concentrate on. Imported products, usually sell for higher and there is a better demand for them than for domestic products. Selling brand name items is another niche. These products have a solid reputation and people want them.
2 Create big margins.
The truth of a matter is the auction fees can kill your profit very easy. There is a listing fee on EBay, a fee if you sell the product, a fee to PayPal when you collect the money. These fees add up pretty quickly and can easily be as much as 10% of your selling price. In addition, any special listings used to display a product can be as much as $20 per listing category. All these fees can eat up your entire profit.
3 Try to make more on shipping and handling.
A large portion of profits can be made on shipping and handling charges. To initially attract customers you can set your product prices relatively low. And as a counter move charge more for shipping and handling.
4 Give your customers something for free.
What I mean is try to come up with something that has a low cost, but appearance and feel of a useful item. The idea here is to give the customer more for less or at least more for the same price.
5 Definitely build your auction reviews.
Your reviews are a cornerstone of your successful growth, simply because good reviews build trust in your business and in turn people want to do business with you. To build a good list of reviews you will have to be available for communication and provide great customer support. Contact information (not just e-mail, your phone number is what matters here) listed with your product will ensure that you are not trying to scam people.
Good luck!
